A public-interest record of a public official's finances, political organizations, proposals, and recorded decisions. Inclusion is based on identifiable evidence and public relevance.
Coverage and its limits
A source-bounded record of Sanders-related campaign committees, organization filings, disclosed personal financial information, official proceedings, selected AI and climate policy, and an attributed career roll-call archive.
- The financial and policy records are a reviewed selection, not a complete inventory of every receipt, asset, tax year, bill, statement, backer or legal proceeding.
- The personal-finance section includes directly acquired calendar-2024 and calendar-2025 Senate annual reports and voluntarily released 2009–2018 tax returns. The newest acquired annual was filed August 13, 2026. Report sections have different reporting cutoffs; later amendments and underlying transactions are not independently established.
- Campaign cycles have individual start and end dates; 2026 figures are partial periods. Original and amended reports can change historic totals.
- No hidden funding channel, financial motive for AI policy, or undisclosed personal enrichment is established by this collection. Documented civil findings and settlements retain their exact parties, scope and outcomes.
- Legislative announcements and introduced proposals are not enacted law. The September 2026 ASI proposal lacks a located filed identifier and full statutory text in this review.
- The Voteview archive includes not-voting and present entries and excludes quorum calls and vacated votes; its latest captured vote is August 8, 2026.
- Checked-on dates indicate review of a source or index reference, not necessarily acquisition of the full original. accessStatus and source notes identify unacquired documents and third-party mirrors.
Reviewed on September 12, 2026. The review date is not the date of every financial figure, legislative event, or source update. This is a versioned research release; it does not claim an automatic live refresh.
Voting data
15,955 member positions were imported from Voteview's 102nd–119th Congress files, covering House service from 1991–2007 and Senate service from 2007 onward. The current import ends 2026-08-08. Voteview excludes quorum calls and vacated votes.
Member records are joined to roll-call metadata by Congress, chamber, and Voteview roll number. The member identity is ICPSR 29147 (Congress bioguide S000033). The importer handles numeric identity encodings such as 29147.0. Voteview roll numbers and official chamber roll numbers are different fields and are preserved separately.
A 178-record Senate subset was separately retrieved from official chamber XML and checked against the bulk import. All matched on date and recorded position. The subset was selected using issue terms and specific omnibus measures; it is a validation and research subset, not a representative statistical sample. The other bulk rows have not all been independently verified.
Eight House Speaker elections were additionally checked against original Clerk XML. Their position field now contains the named candidate; voteviewPosition preserves the binary research encoding. In these eight entries, raw result and yea/nay totals remain Voteview metadata. The officialChoice object contains official candidate totals, counted member-row totals, a separately verified winner, citations and any source-conflict notes. The CSV and SQLite preserve the same fields.
The 1995 Clerk result field says Foley, while the Congressional Record declares Gingrich elected. The 2003 Clerk aggregate totals differ from counts of its individual member rows; Sanders's Pelosi choice agrees across both official records. Both discrepancies are retained explicitly.
Yea, nay, present, and not-voting entries remain distinct. A vote on a motion to proceed, cloture, an amendment, a veto, or final passage is labeled with that question. A yea on a procedural motion does not establish support for every provision. No ideology, corruption, loyalty, or financial-influence score is calculated.
Official roll-call links are constructed from the source's chamber, session, year and clerk roll number. Historical link availability varies. The source's Voteview record and receipt hash provide an additional retrieval path.

Reading financial records
- Keep the owner and the period. Campaign committees, independent organizations, and a personal or joint tax return are separate reporting entities. Receipts in one are not earnings in another.
- Preserve disclosed ranges. A financial disclosure is not a complete balance sheet. Exclusions, ownership labels, liability conventions and reporting ranges prevent a reliable exact net-worth or lifetime-income calculation.
- Do not double-count transfers. Money passing between committees can appear as an outgoing payment and an incoming receipt. Those are two reports of a flow, not two independent additions to wealth.
- Differentiate influence from association. An employer field on an individual donation does not establish corporate support. A shared policy position, organizational relationship, or chronological overlap does not establish payment for an official act.
- Keep proceedings and outcomes together. A complaint, staff recommendation, vote, conciliation agreement, dismissal and closed file each have distinct meanings. Resolution facts and limits are part of the record.
- Retain source discrepancies. Some FEC historical summary components do not add to their displayed totals. Affected entries are flagged. No derived share or missing-money inference is made from those components.
Legislative sponsorship inventory
The legislation explorer contains 5,303 bills and resolutions in acquired official records for 2003–2026: 441 sponsored and 4,862 cosponsored, including 2 later withdrawals. It does not include 1991–2002, amendments, nominations, or roll-call votes.
Every relationship is matched to the exact Bioguide identity S000033 in the official GovInfo BILLSTATUS XML. The 48 member-chamber archive scopes cover House bills and three resolution types for the 108th–109th Congresses, and the Senate equivalents for the 110th–119th Congresses. One additional 119th House-bill archive was searched for an ASI counterpart; a companion bill is not counted as Sanders-sponsored without a direct member entry.
All 49 acquired archives passed SHA-256 and ZIP CRC checks. Every contained XML parsed successfully, and a second enumeration reconciled each selected measure's role, sponsorship date, and withdrawal date. Individual XML files were acquired through these ZIPs. Only records carrying a separate direct-fetch receipt were individually retrieved and compared; a source URL is not a claim that every URL was fetched separately.
Stable IDs combine measure type, number and Congress. Reintroductions remain separate measures. Sponsorship dates, original-cosponsor flags, withdrawal dates, latest actions and law references retain their source meaning. Cosponsorship totals include historical withdrawals; the no-withdrawal filter excludes them. No record is inferred to be an enacted law solely because an action contains “passed.”
5 records contain an original-cosponsor flag with a cosponsorship date different from the introduction date. Each was checked against a separately fetched official XML and matched its archive member. The original values remain unchanged and flagged. These source-data conflicts support no inference about conduct.
563 records have no text URL listed in their status XML. This does not establish that no public text exists. Listed text versions and URLs are metadata; 3 full-text versions were separately acquired and have their own receipt hashes. Search operates on inventory metadata, not full statutory text. Canonical Congress.gov URLs supplied where the XML lacks a link are labeled as constructed and not fetched.
The September 2026 ASI announcement is maintained separately from filed measures. The acquired Senate status files have introduction dates preceding that announcement; absence of an ASI title in this snapshot does not prove non-filing. Retrieval dates, publisher update dates and legislative event dates are preserved separately. This is a versioned release without automatic refresh.

Legislation and public statements
A sponsor announcement proves what the sponsor announced. Filed text establishes the wording of that version. Congress and GovInfo status records establish recorded actions. Neither a press release nor an introduced bill is an enacted law.
Descriptions of other people or AI systems inside a political statement remain attributed assertions. They are not independently established merely because the statement appears on an official website. Where text and a sponsor summary differ, the distinction is recorded.
Public-interest use and privacy
This collection is freely available as public-interest reporting. It excludes private residential addresses, account identifiers, personal contact details, individual donor lists and profiles of private relatives. Publicly relevant financial amounts and official acts are retained with their original reporting context.
Financial-disclosure reports have statutory use restrictions, including limits on commercial use, solicitation and credit-rating use. The statute provides an exception for news and communications media disseminating information to the general public. FEC contributor information also has source-specific restrictions. These records are not incorporated into paid evidence bundles, donor prospecting, solicitation, or credit screening.
Source-use rules continue to apply to downloads. The availability of a file does not grant unrestricted commercial reuse of every underlying source. Government records, filer-submitted documents, and Voteview's compilation have different provenance. No blanket CC0 license is asserted over this combined release.

A complete source link is supplied for auditability. Raw financial-disclosure and tax-return documents are not republished in these downloads. Third-party mirrors of original filings are identified as mirrors, with no assertion that they represent the latest filing.
Corrections and right of reply
Each research record has a stable identifier and a correction link. Include that identifier, the disputed statement and the supporting primary record. Responses and source updates are evaluated against the same evidence standard. A substantive correction must propagate to the record page, JSON, SQLite and release manifest.
Disagreement with a political position is distinct from an inaccurate record. New evidence can change a finding. Read the corrections and right-of-reply policy.

The SQLite export contains records, facts, limitations, sources, record-source links, findings, open questions and vote tables, with full-text search indexes. Monetary exports preserve USD and GBP separately. The legacy amountCents fields store integer hundredths of the labeled currency: cents for USD, pence for GBP. No exchange-rate conversion is applied. The manifest hashes each public data artifact. Source receipt hashes refer to retrieved source bytes, not proof that a source's assertions are true.
